In a bid to promote sustainable energy and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, the Public Works Department (PWD) of New Delhi has implemented several green initiatives. These include the installation of electric pumps to manage waterlogging, the electrification of its vehicle fleet, and the expansion of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. Additionally, a directive has been issued prohibiting all foreign travel for PWD officials, effectively canceling any previously sanctioned leaves for such trips. The PWD has also mandated the use of organic manure in horticulture operations, moving away from synthetic options. Minister Parvesh Verma has requested weekly compliance reports to monitor the progress of these initiatives. However, Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjeev Jha has criticized the government for continuing to issue tenders for fossil fuel vehicles, arguing that this contradicts the PWD's green agenda. A senior PWD official clarified that these vehicles are rented for urgent tasks, but emphasized that future procurement will focus on EVs.
