On Sunday, a leopard wandered into Maujipur hamlet, located in Chakia forest range of Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh, causing panic among residents. The wild animal attacked three individuals, leaving them with minor injuries. In response, villagers quickly organized to drive the leopard away and managed to confine it inside the house of a local resident named Naseem. The Forest Department was alerted, and a rescue team led by veterinarian Dr. Deepak Verma arrived promptly. The leopard, a young female estimated to be around one-and-a-half years old, was tranquilized and captured. Divisional Forest Officer Sundaresh Mysore explained that such young leopards often stray into human settlements while searching for territory or prey. The leopard will undergo a medical examination before being released into a suitable forest area. The incident underscores the rising trend of wild animals encroaching on human habitats, with the Bahraich Forest Division having conducted several successful rescue operations in recent weeks.
