The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has appointed Sanjay Jamuar as the first Chief Executive Officer of its newly established global arm, Delhi Metro International Limited (DMIL). Launched last month, DMIL is designed to leverage DMRC's extensive expertise in metro operations and planning to target both domestic and international clients. Jamuar brings a wealth of experience, having previously served in various capacities within the Indian Railways and DMRC, along with international assignments in countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States, and France. He holds a postgraduate diploma in strategic leadership from Warwick Business School in the UK.
DMRC is recognized as a significant player in global metro project execution, second only to China. The corporation is already involved in consulting for the Dhaka Metro project in Bangladesh and managing operations and maintenance contracts for metro projects in Chennai, Mumbai, and Patna. Despite its expertise, DMRC faces challenges in international expansion, particularly due to local firms receiving preferential treatment in foreign markets. DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar has indicated that DMIL aims to overcome these barriers by partnering with international players to establish a foothold in new markets.
