The 'Threads of Indian Tradition' festival held in the Nee Soon public housing estate in north-east Singapore celebrated Indian culture by rewarding performers with boxes of Indian mangoes instead of traditional trophies. Organized by the High Commission of India, this event attracted over 650 residents and featured around 60 performers. Indian High Commissioner Shilpak Ambule highlighted the initiative's goal of promoting Indian mango exports, showcasing popular varieties like Alphonso and Kesar. The festival follows a previous mango event that drew over 6,000 visitors, generating significant interest in Indian mangoes among Singaporeans, including non-Indians. As the world's largest mango producer, India is ramping up its export efforts, planning more festivals during the mango season to strengthen cultural ties and boost demand for its fruit.
