The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has announced an allocation of ₹48 crore (approximately $5.8 million USD) to enhance waste and sanitation management for the fiscal year 2026-27. This funding will facilitate the hiring of vehicles, machinery, and manpower to improve garbage collection across multiple zones in the city. The official order, issued on April 27, outlines plans for various sanitation works, including the deployment of 50 light motor vehicles and 30 medium motor vehicles with auto-tipping facilities in the West Zone. Additionally, Shahdara will receive 52 vehicles, including tipper trucks and loaders, for mixed waste collection over six months. Other zones, such as Najafgarh, will utilize CNG-run vehicles and HYVA trucks for clearing garbage. Currently, the MCD collects about 13,000 metric tons of garbage daily, with figures exceeding 15,000 metric tons during cleanliness drives. The MCD has granted in-principle approval for projects across ten zones, allowing for expedited implementation of the sanitation management plan through short-notice tenders.
