The Supreme Court Collegium has approved the elevation of 10 advocates as judges for the Punjab and Haryana High Court. This includes Pravindra Singh Chauhan, the current Advocate General of Haryana, and other notable figures such as Navdeep Singh, a senior advocate with a distinguished military law practice. The appointments were made during a meeting on May 4 and aim to alleviate the court's severe backlog, which currently exceeds 400,000 cases. With the high court operating with only 58 judges, the new appointments will raise its total to 68, providing much-needed relief in handling over 6,000 cases daily. Several of the newly appointed judges were designated as senior advocates last year, highlighting their experience and qualifications.
