Recent incidents at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in Nashik, India, have brought attention to the rising number of sexual harassment complaints in the corporate sector. An analysis of data from 300 listed companies shows that complaints under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, commonly known as the POSH Act, have increased dramatically, with 10,337 cases reported from 2013 to 2025. This represents a 974% increase in formal complaints, particularly within the information technology and financial services sectors, which have seen significant rises in reported cases. Despite this increase, about 14% of these complaints remain unresolved, indicating systemic issues in enforcement and accountability. The POSH Act, enacted in 2013, mandates that organizations with ten or more employees establish internal committees to address harassment complaints. However, many cases go unreported due to fear of retaliation or stigma. The gender imbalance in corporate India is stark, with women comprising only 20% of the workforce in the analyzed companies, underscoring the challenges in addressing workplace harassment. Furthermore, India's enforcement perception score for women's workplace rights is low at 34, compared to higher scores in the US and Japan, indicating a significant gap between policy and practice.

The rising number of complaints indicates a growing awareness of workplace rights among women, but the persistent gaps in enforcement suggest that many women may still feel unsafe or unsupported in their workplaces.
