Google Cloud is set to invest $15 billion in a new artificial intelligence (AI)-ready data centre in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India, with a capacity of 5 gigawatts (GW). This ambitious project, announced by CEO Thomas Kurian during the Google Cloud Next 2026 summit in Las Vegas, will be constructed over five years from 2026 to 2030. Once operational, this facility will significantly surpass India's current total data centre capacity of 1.5 GW as of the end of 2025. The new campus will consist of multiple data centres and will enhance Google's existing network of AI data centres across 12 countries. Kurian also highlighted that the facility will support data flow during crises, as governments have previously waived data localisation mandates in such situations, ensuring operational flexibility for Google Cloud.
