JSW Steel Ltd has entered into a 50:50 joint venture with South Korea's POSCO Group to build a 6 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) integrated steel plant in Odisha, India. This project, which is expected to cost approximately ₹35,000 crore (roughly $4.2 billion USD), aims to bolster economic ties between India and South Korea, with a goal of doubling bilateral trade to $50 billion by 2030. The plant will be situated in the mineral-rich Keonjhar district, which is poised to benefit significantly from this investment, potentially creating around 8,000 jobs. The High-Level Clearance Authority (HLCA) has already approved the project, with land acquisition processes underway. The partnership is viewed as a strategic move to enhance manufacturing capabilities and secure advanced technology for high-grade steel production. This venture marks POSCO's return to Odisha after a previous failed investment attempt in Jagatsinghpur, highlighting the importance of this new collaboration for both nations.
