Currently, the university's senate comprises 75 members, down from its full strength of 111 due to unheld elections. The current composition includes 39 members from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], 27 from the UDF, 8 from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and 1 Independent. With the UDF's return to power, its representation is expected to rise to 41, while CPI(M) could drop to 20 members, as several current CPI(M) members were appointed by the previous Left Democratic Front government. Additionally, the Syndicate, which currently has 23 members including the Vice-Chancellor, will also undergo changes with the UDF likely gaining more influence.
