In a shocking incident in Jaisalmer district, Rajasthan, over 300 dead cows were found at a municipal garbage dumping yard, approximately 7 km from the district headquarters. The discovery, made on Sunday, has led to public outrage, particularly after videos of the rotting carcasses circulated on social media. Concerns have been raised regarding the negligence of the contractor, Goparam, who was responsible for disposing of dead animals. Instead of using the designated disposal pit, he allegedly dumped the carcasses in the open, causing environmental pollution and sparking protests among local residents. In response, Jaisalmer District Collector Anupama Jorwal has demanded a comprehensive report on the situation. Municipal Council Commissioner Lajpal Singh Sodha has issued a show-cause notice to the contractor, emphasizing the health risks posed by the exposed carcasses. Following administrative action, JCB machines were deployed to properly clear the site. Community members, including cow lover Hukam Dan, have expressed their distress over the incident, calling for greater accountability in cattle management and improved facilities for stray animals.
