The Supreme Court of India is set to hold a special Lok Adalat, known as Samadhan Samaroh 2026, from August 21 to 23, 2026, to facilitate the mediation of 47 pending cases from Shivamogga district. Santhosh M.S., Member Secretary of the Shivamogga District Legal Services Authority, announced that litigants have been notified to participate in this process, which aims to resolve civil and compoundable criminal cases amicably. The mediation will allow litigants to attend hearings through video conferencing, eliminating the need for travel to Delhi and incurring additional costs. Cases that can be settled through negotiation will be prioritized, while non-compoundable criminal cases are excluded. Furthermore, a National Lok Adalat is scheduled for July 11 to address all civil disputes and compoundable criminal cases. The Lok Adalat system is designed to expedite case resolution, as settlements reached are final and cannot be appealed, thereby reducing the backlog of cases. The District Legal Services Authority also plans to conduct legal awareness workshops for the Banjara community and other groups upon request.
