On Friday, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), inaugurated the 39-kilometre-long Shahrah-i-Bhutto Expressway, which connects Qayyumabad in Karachi to the M-9 Motorway. This significant infrastructure project features six lanes, six interchanges, and a 5-kilometre elevated section designed to improve traffic flow and accessibility. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah highlighted the expressway's potential to reduce travel time by about one hour for those traveling outside Karachi to other provinces such as Sindh, Punjab, or Balochistan. The project has been in development for 4 to 4.5 years, with the first segment inaugurated in January 2025 and a subsequent segment in June 2025. Shah expressed that the completion of the project was delayed to avoid displacing any local populations along the route. Additionally, he noted that projects worth Rs1,700 billion are currently underway in Karachi, with over Rs70 billion of projects approved in the past three months alone.
