As temperatures in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, continue to rise, the city has recorded a peak power demand of 2,137 MVA on Wednesday, a significant increase from 2,059 MVA the previous day. This surge in electricity consumption is attributed to the extensive use of air-conditioning and other cooling appliances as residents cope with the heat. Compared to last year's demand of approximately 1,880 MVA, this year's figures indicate a growing reliance on electrical appliances, including electric vehicle (EV) charging points and induction cooktops. Power officials warn that if the heatwave persists, demand could breach 2,200 MVA within days, and projections suggest it may even reach 3,000 MVA this year. Residents have reported issues such as low voltage and transformer breakdowns, particularly during peak usage times. In response, the Lucknow Electricity Supply Administration (LESA) has been monitoring the power network continuously. Preparations for the summer included maintenance of infrastructure and the installation of additional transformers in high-demand areas. Energy experts stress the importance of investing in power infrastructure to meet the increasing demand as Lucknow continues to expand.
