The long-standing issue of cow dung disposal at the Tajpur Road dairy complex in Ludhiana, Punjab, has been resolved with the start of a new collection system. Dairy owners and the contractor reached an agreement to use carts for transporting cow dung, which will be parked outside their units for collection. Lovely Singh, head of the Dairy Owners’ Association, confirmed that this method began on Thursday. Previously, dairy workers flushed cow dung into narrow drains, leading to blockages and pollution in Buddah Nullah, a local water body. This situation exacerbated waste management issues, as the mixing of solid and liquid waste hindered the efficiency of effluent treatment plants. The administration has been working to mitigate the environmental impact of dairy waste, and this new collection method is a step towards revitalizing the affected water body.
