Microsoft has announced a price reduction for its Xbox Game Pass subscription service in response to user dissatisfaction. The Ultimate plan will now cost $22.99, a decrease from $29.99, but it will no longer provide access to new Call of Duty titles at launch; these will instead be available the following holiday season. The PC Game Pass plan has also been adjusted, now priced at $13.99 instead of $16.49, with similar restrictions on Call of Duty titles. This change follows substantial price hikes implemented last October, which saw the Ultimate plan increase by 50% and the PC plan by 37.5%. User reactions were strong enough to cause the Microsoft website to crash as many rushed to cancel their subscriptions. While the new prices are lower than the recent hikes, they are still above the original prices of $19.99 for the Ultimate plan and $11.99 for the PC plan, leading to concerns about price anchoring. The Essential and Premium plans continue to offer limited libraries, making them less appealing compared to the Ultimate plan.
