India's iPhone exports soared to ₹2 lakh crore (approximately $24 billion USD) in the fiscal year 2025-26, marking a significant milestone under the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for large-scale electronics manufacturing. This surge makes Apple the largest branded export in India, accounting for over 75% of the total smartphone exports, which reached about ₹2.6 lakh crore (around $29.4 billion USD). The PLI scheme has been instrumental in enhancing Apple's manufacturing capabilities in India, with over 40 domestic suppliers contributing to the production ecosystem, alongside global partners. Notably, manufacturing partners Tata Electronics and Foxconn have established large production facilities, employing between 19,000 to over 42,000 workers each, with women making up more than 70% of the workforce. The growth trajectory of iPhone exports has been remarkable, increasing from ₹9,351.6 crore in FY22 to ₹1.5 lakh crore in FY25. Despite geopolitical tensions, exports continued to rise by 33% in the first 11 months of FY26. Meanwhile, Apple CEO Tim Cook will step down from his role, transitioning to executive chairman, with John Tenus taking over as CEO on September 1.
