While he has expressed little interest in mainstream franchises such as Star Wars, he is keen on exploring select IPs from his youth, hinting at Portal as a potential candidate. Despite earlier attempts to adapt Portal, including involvement from director JJ Abrams, progress has been minimal. Abrams noted in 2021 that the film was still in development at Warner Bros., but updates have been scarce. The thematic parallels between Backrooms and Portal's unsettling environments suggest that Parsons could effectively bring the game to life. However, the complexities surrounding the rights to the franchise may pose challenges for Parsons's vision.
