The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has introduced a work-from-home policy for one-third of its Group B and C employees, effective immediately. This initiative aims to reduce unnecessary commuting, optimize fuel consumption, and promote digital-first administrative practices. The order, issued by the Office of Director (Personnel), specifies that the arrangement will apply in departments where it is administratively feasible. Employees commuting from distant areas using personal vehicles are prioritized for inclusion in the work-from-home list. Those permitted to work remotely are required to remain accessible through official communication channels and attend the office when necessary. Certain categories of staff, including sanitation and public health personnel, emergency services, and field maintenance teams, are exempt from this arrangement and must continue physical attendance as per operational needs. The NDMC encourages employees to use public transport, bicycles, or electric vehicles instead of fossil fuel-based personal vehicles. Senior officers will hold meetings in person at Palika Kendra, while other officers may join digitally. Department heads are also urged to favor video conferencing to minimize non-essential travel.
