On Sunday morning, May 24, 2026, the Philippine Coast Guard successfully rescued four passengers from a motorized boat that suffered engine failure while en route from Capoocan, Leyte, to Barangay Looc, Cabucgayan, Biliran. The incident was reported at 9:45 a.m. by Charlyn Gelizan, a resident of Barangay Looc. Responding promptly, the Coast Guard Sub-Station Cabucgayan rented another motorized boat and initiated a search-and-rescue operation within five minutes. By 10:08 a.m., Coast Guard personnel had reached the distressed vessel, assisting the passengers in disembarking safely and towing the boat to safety. The rescue team, aboard MBCA Klent & Joreng, arrived at the port of Barangay Magbangon by 10:30 a.m. The vessel in distress, MBCA DI Judella, was operated by Jovane Daplas, with the passengers identified as Refalene Agang, Roslene May Agang, Precious G. Luay, and Micaella G. Metran, all from Barangay Pawikan. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported during this incident.
