The Punjab Transparency and Accountability Commission (PTAC) has issued a show-cause notice to the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) due to significant billing issues affecting approximately 19 lakh consumers. Complaints have arisen regarding delayed bills, with some consumers receiving bills after four to five months, resulting in inflated payment demands. Despite the notice being issued on May 15, PSPCL has not responded as required within the stipulated seven days. The commission, invoking the Punjab Transparency and Accountability in Delivery of Public Services Act, warned that officials could face penalties of up to ₹10,000 per case for negligence. PSPCL director Inderpal Singh attributed some issues to a nearly two-month employee strike and technical problems from a recent transition to a new billing system. The PTAC chairperson, VK Janjua, confirmed that no response has been received yet and indicated that further reminders would be issued. If PSPCL fails to comply, the commission may recommend disciplinary actions against responsible officials.
