The Delhi government has approved a significant investment of ₹805.99 crore (approximately $97 million USD) for the construction of a new medical college and hostel complex at the Indira Gandhi Hospital campus in Dwarka. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the institution will offer 250 MBBS seats annually, with the first batch of 150 students expected to start academic activities before the college officially opens in 2028. The project will include a medical college building, separate hostels for male and female students, faculty housing, and other essential academic infrastructure. The Public Works Department (PWD) will oversee construction, ensuring adherence to National Medical Commission (NMC) norms and green building standards, such as solar power systems and rainwater harvesting. The initiative aims to position Delhi as a hub for medical education, enhancing the region's healthcare infrastructure.
