On Saturday, Yemen’s coast guard reported the hijacking of the oil tanker M/T EUREKA off the coast of Shabwa province by unidentified armed men. The hijackers have directed the vessel towards the Gulf of Aden, a vital maritime route connecting the Arabian Sea with the Red Sea. The coast guard has located the tanker and is currently working to recover it while ensuring the safety of the crew. Earlier that day, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) alerted about suspicious activity approximately 84 nautical miles southwest of Mukalla, Yemen. A bulk carrier's master reported being approached closely by a small green-hulled skiff and a white fishing vessel. While it is unclear if these incidents are connected, both have heightened concerns regarding maritime security in the region, which has a history of piracy and conflict.
