Ladakh-based groups, including the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), reported that their meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday was inconclusive. LAB co-convenor Chering Dorjay Lakrook stated that their proposals for increased rights and statehood were rejected outright. Shah's visit to Leh was primarily for attending a religious event, specifically the first international exposition of holy relics of Lord Buddha, and he declined to hold a high-powered committee meeting as requested by local leaders. This meeting follows two previous discussions with the Union home ministry that also failed to reach an agreement on the demands for constitutional safeguards under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. Shah's itinerary includes inaugurating dairy infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing local dairy operations, highlighting the government's focus on economic development in the region amidst ongoing political tensions.
