According to the 'Women and Men in India 2025' report by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, women's representation in corporate leadership is on the rise. By 2025, women held 29.1% of board positions, up from 26% in 2018, while their share in senior management roles increased to 17.1% from 13.9%. This shift reflects a decline in men's representation, which fell to 70.9% on boards and 82.9% in management. Notably, the number of women in managerial roles surged by 102.54%, compared to a 73.80% increase for men from 2017 to 2025. The report also highlights a significant rise in women-led startups, reaching 19,351 in 2025, with Maharashtra leading in numbers. However, women still face underrepresentation in sectors like judiciary, where they occupy only 14.3% of positions, and in the Supreme Court, where they represent just 3.03% of judges. The defence sector has seen improvements, with women constituting 8.3% of total personnel, particularly in the Defence Research and Development Organisation at 15.4%.
