This growth was highlighted by New and Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi, who noted that China remains the leader with 315 GW added during the same period. India’s solar capacity has seen significant increases over the years, with 9.6 GW added in 2023 and 25.4 GW in 2024. Despite this rapid growth, India still lags behind the US in cumulative installed solar capacity, which stands at 211.6 GW compared to India's 135.5 GW. The country aims to reach 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, with non-fossil fuel sources currently accounting for around half of its total installed power generation capacity. In FY26, India achieved a record addition of 44.61 GW of solar power, nearly doubling the previous year's record, indicating a robust trajectory towards renewable energy expansion.
