The Thrissur Municipal Corporation has been honored with the 'Paristhithi Mithram Award 2026' in the local self-government category for its exemplary contributions to environmental governance. This award, which includes a cash prize of ₹1 lakh, will be presented at the upcoming State-level World Environment Day celebrations in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The Corporation has made notable progress in areas such as waste management, water conservation, and greening initiatives across its 56 divisions. Key projects include scientific waste processing, recycling measures, and strict enforcement against single-use plastics. A highlight of their efforts is the innovative watershed management program, which has successfully rejuvenated several waterbodies within the city. Additionally, the 'Water Efficient Thrissur' initiative incorporates advanced technologies like GeoBlue Water Forest to improve water quality. Mayor Niji Justin stated that this recognition reflects the collective efforts of the community and reinforces their commitment to further environmental initiatives.
