Spotify has announced plans to implement Apple’s HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) technology for its video podcasts, aiming to enhance playback quality and simplify content distribution for creators. HLS dynamically adjusts video quality based on users' internet connection speeds, which helps minimize buffering and playback interruptions. This integration will allow creators to monetize their content on Apple Podcasts without needing to overhaul their existing workflows. The rollout of HLS is expected later this year, promising a more stable viewing experience for users and enabling creators to reach a broader audience beyond Spotify. Additionally, Spotify is expanding support for third-party podcast hosting platforms, allowing creators from Libsyn, Podigee, and others to publish video podcasts directly to Spotify and participate in the Spotify Partner Program for revenue generation. Since introducing video podcasts in 2020, Spotify has focused on enhancing creator access and monetization tools, with over 390 million users streaming video podcasts as of November 2025.
