Two Metropolitan Police officers, Pc Chris Johnson, 56, and former Pc Danny Tomkins, 35, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court following the tragic death of a pregnant woman, Ms. Ahmed, in a crash. The prosecution, led by Catherine Farrelly KC, stated that both officers were driving over 70mph in a 30mph zone while attempting to overtake vehicles on the wrong side of the road for about 130 metres before the collision. Johnson, who was driving the vehicle involved in the crash, reportedly accelerated to around 80mph and was braking at the time of impact. He faces charges of causing death by dangerous driving, while Tomkins, who denied dangerous driving, was driving a separate police vehicle. The incident occurred during a pre-planned operation targeting vehicles suspected of criminal activity. Following a mandatory referral, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) initiated an investigation into the incident.
