The Madhya Pradesh Labour department has introduced a toll-free helpline named 'Shram Prahari' for citizens to report unregistered factories and construction sites. This initiative, effective from May 27, allows individuals to confidentially report violations, which will prompt inspections and potential legal actions against non-compliant establishments. Registration with the Labour department is mandatory for all establishments to ensure workers can access welfare schemes. Under the Factories Act of 1948, any site employing 20 or more workers must obtain a license, while the Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act of 1996 mandates employers to inform the Labour department before starting construction. Penalties for non-compliance can be severe, including fines and imprisonment. The government emphasizes the importance of immediate registration to avoid punitive measures and enhance worker safety.
