The Directorate of Education (DoE) in New Delhi has issued a directive requiring all private, unaided, recognized schools to collect fees on a monthly basis. This decision, communicated in an order dated April 30, comes in response to numerous complaints from parents who reported being pressured to pay fees in advance, which created financial strain. The DoE emphasized that no school should compel payment for more than one month in a single installment, aligning with previous instructions and a ruling from the Delhi High Court that sought to protect parents' interests. Schools are also prohibited from making advance fee payments a prerequisite for admission or continued enrollment. The order mandates that schools display this directive prominently and upload it on their official websites within seven working days. The DoE warned that failure to comply could result in severe consequences, such as withdrawal of recognition or takeover of school management. This initiative aims to ensure equitable access to education, particularly for families from low- and middle-income backgrounds.
