The Department of Posts (DoP) in India is targeting an incremental revenue of ₹4,000 crore (approximately $480 million USD) this fiscal year, doubling last year's record growth of ₹2,100 crore, which marked the highest revenue increase in four decades. Minister of State for Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani emphasized that this ambitious target is driven by innovation, accountability, and clear targets across all operational segments. The DoP's revenue has shown a consistent upward trend, growing from ₹11,500 crore in 2016 to ₹13,200 crore in 2025. Pemmasani noted that the department is focused on transforming post offices from cost centers into profit centers over the next 3-4 years. To achieve this, the DoP is implementing various strategies, including monthly performance reviews for officials, setting reasonable targets, and addressing operational bottlenecks. Innovative solutions such as speed post delivery within 24 to 48 hours and a robust tracking system are being introduced to enhance customer experience. Additionally, the DoP has extended service hours at 214 post offices and plans to increase this to about 4,000 post offices, making services more accessible to the public.
