The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has appointed KVR Murty as its Whole-Time Member, effective immediately. Murty, who took charge in Mumbai, brings over 30 years of experience in public finance, corporate regulation, and financial oversight linked to national security. His previous role was as the Additional Controller General of Defence Accounts in the Ministry of Defence, where he oversaw financial systems for defense operations. Murty holds a Master's degree in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics, enhancing his extensive administrative background.
His career includes significant positions such as Principal Integrated Financial Adviser to the Indian Air Force and Financial Adviser to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). At the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, he was instrumental in shaping corporate law frameworks and advancing e-governance initiatives, notably leading efforts to decriminalize certain corporate law provisions. This reform aligns with the government's broader Jan Vishwas legislative push to enhance ease of doing business.
Murty's experience also includes adjudicating cases related to corporate restructuring, which is closely aligned with Sebi's regulatory mandate. He previously served as a part-time member on Sebi's board, providing him with familiarity with its policy environment. Additionally, he has held board-level roles in various regulatory and professional bodies. His contributions to improving operational readiness in the Indian Air Force's financial systems earned him the Raksha Mantri Award for Excellence in 2024.
