On January 26, 1972, Vesna Vulović, a 22-year-old flight attendant for Yugoslav Airlines, was aboard JAT Flight 367 when it exploded at approximately 33,000 feet over the region now known as the Czech Republic. The aircraft disintegrated mid-air, scattering debris and passengers across the landscape, with no survivors expected. Remarkably, Vulović was found alive in a section of the fuselage, buried in snow on a mountainside. Rescuers believe that her location cushioned the impact of the fall, which was further softened by the snow-covered terrain. Despite sustaining severe injuries, including fractures to her skull, spine, and pelvis, Vulović had no memory of the explosion or the fall due to a head injury.
