Portillo’s, the iconic hot dog chain based in Oak Brook, Illinois, is preparing to open a new restaurant on Michigan Avenue, located at 304 N. Michigan Ave. Although an opening date has not been announced, this location will mark the fourth Portillo’s in Chicago and the 45th in the greater Chicago area. The restaurant, which will span 5,500 square feet and accommodate nearly 100 diners, is part of a strategic reset for the company, which has faced challenges in expanding its footprint since going public in 2021. Portillo's CEO Brett Patterson emphasized the significance of returning to the brand's roots in Chicago, stating that the city is integral to the company's history and future. The new restaurant aims to revitalize the Loop area, which has struggled with commercial vacancies following the pandemic. Despite a 3% increase in revenue to $732.1 million for fiscal year 2025, the company reported a decline in same-restaurant sales and a significant drop in net income compared to the previous year.
