The Mumbai civic standing committee has approved a proposal for extensive renovations of the Koularu Bungalow, with an estimated cost of ₹3.84 crore. Located within the Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan in Byculla, this historic bungalow will serve as the official residence for newly elected mayor Ritu Tawde. The renovation plans include a complete overhaul of the interiors, such as new furniture, tiles, fixtures, and sanitation facilities, alongside structural modifications to add a bedroom. The aim is to balance the preservation of the bungalow's architectural legacy with modern functionality. Enhancements will include antique-style chandeliers and Italian marble flooring, ensuring the building retains its heritage character. This initiative reflects Mumbai's commitment to safeguarding its rich architectural heritage, supported by recent amendments to the Development Control Rules by the Maharashtra government.
