On Thursday, a protest was held at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi in response to the Uttar Pradesh Police's invocation of the National Security Act (NSA) against two individuals accused of inciting unrest during a workers' protest in Noida. The Campaign for Release of Workers and Activists of Noida (CaRWAN) organized the demonstration, where participants, including human rights activists and professors, labeled the charges against Satya Verma (60) and Aakriti Chaudhary (25) as 'baseless.' The protests began on April 10 and escalated into violence on April 13, resulting in damage to over 100 factories and numerous vehicles. Protesters demanded the release of the accused and others they claimed were wrongfully implicated. Activist Nandita Narain criticized the government's actions against educated youth, while Bhavana Sharma emphasized the impact of rising living costs on workers. In defense, the Uttar Pradesh Police stated that the accused played significant roles in inciting violence and disturbing public order during the protests.
