Sanitation workers of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) ended their strike on Thursday, which lasted for 14 days, after the Haryana government agreed to consider their demands for regularization and improved wages. Approximately 3,980 workers had been on strike since May 1, significantly affecting civic services such as road sweeping and garbage collection throughout the city. Basant Kumar, president of the Haryana Sarv Karamchari Sangh, stated that union leaders met with Haryana government representatives who assured that action would be taken by June 30. The union is advocating for the regularization of nearly 13,000 sanitation workers statewide, with over 3,500 in Gurugram. Workers disrupted sanitation operations and expressed concerns about the declining cleanliness in the city, especially during a visit from the Swachh Survekshan survey team. With the workers returning to their duties, officials expect improvements in sanitation services.
