The old Mysuru region in Karnataka, India, faced heavy rains and gusty winds over the weekend, leading to extensive damage to crops and infrastructure. The storms particularly affected Varuna hobli in Mysuru taluk, where many coconut and arecanut trees, as well as banana plantations, were uprooted. The farmlands near Giribettakere lake suffered the most significant damage, with incidents of fallen trees and downed power lines disrupting vehicular movement. In Alur taluk, the pre-monsoon showers brought relief after a dry spell but also caused traffic disruptions due to fallen trees and power outages in approximately 25 villages. Cesc junior engineer Kumar assured residents that power would be restored by Monday morning. Meanwhile, Kora in Tumakuru district recorded 62 mm of rain, the highest in the state, with additional rainfall reported in parts of Kodagu. The storms have prompted local residents to express dissatisfaction with the lack of timely action from officials regarding crop loss surveys and power restoration efforts.
