The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which operates under the Amul brand, has announced a ₹2 per litre increase in milk prices across India, effective May 14. This decision is attributed to rising operational costs, including cattle feed, packaging materials, and fuel. The price hike represents an increase of approximately 2.5-3.5% per litre, which is lower than the current food inflation rate. In addition to the milk price hike, GCMMF has increased the procurement price for farmers by ₹30 per kg of fat, a 3.7% rise compared to May 2025. For consumers in the Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh regions, the new prices for a 500 ml pack will be ₹27 for slim N, ₹30 for Taaza, ₹31 for cow milk, and ₹36 for gold variant, while buffalo milk will now cost ₹80 per litre. GCMMF, the world's largest farmer-owned dairy cooperative, reported an 11% rise in turnover for the Amul brand, exceeding ₹1 lakh crore due to increased demand for dairy products. The cooperative collects 31 million litres of milk daily and distributes over 24 billion packs of products annually.
