Ladakh, a Union Territory in India, has experienced a significant surge in tourist arrivals, with a growth rate of 43.65% during the first five months of 2026. Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena announced that this increase reflects the successful initiatives aimed at establishing Ladakh as a premier tourism destination. Notably, May 2026 marked a historic milestone, with a staggering 121.2% increase in visitors, totaling 72,834 compared to 32,927 in May 2025. The total number of tourists from January to May reached 117,546, up from 81,827 in the same period last year. Saxena attributed this growth to enhanced infrastructure, improved connectivity, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal to promote domestic tourism. He encouraged visitors to explore Ladakh's unique blend of nature, adventure, culture, and spirituality, inviting people from across the country to experience its pristine environment.
