Security agencies and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) have initiated an investigation into a deliberate sabotage attempt at Howrah Station in West Bengal, India. CCTV footage revealed a suspect throwing an object that ignited a fire in a coach of the Mithila Express on Tuesday. This incident coincides with recent intelligence warnings indicating that railways are increasingly targeted for disruption. Authorities suspect the act was intended to incite panic and potentially cause a stampede among the thousands of commuters present. Following the fire, which was extinguished using fire extinguishers, a half-burnt petrol-soaked cloth was recovered from the scene, further indicating foul play. In response, high alert protocols have been implemented at major railway terminals nationwide. The Railway Ministry praised the swift actions of railway staff in managing the situation and emphasized ongoing investigations to ensure passenger safety and address the threats posed by anti-social elements aiming to instill fear within the railway system.
