Nida Khan, an employee of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), was arrested by Nashik Police on May 7 after evading capture for over 40 days in connection with a controversial conversion and workplace harassment case. Following her arrest, she was presented before the Nashik Road Sessions Court, which ordered her to be held in police custody until May 11. Police sources indicate that Khan fled Nashik as soon as she sensed the investigation was closing in on her, first relocating to Mumbai and then to her husband's residence in Mumbra. She ultimately hid in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar until police tracked her down with assistance from local crime branch officials. Allegations against Khan include actively influencing female colleagues to adopt Islamic practices and preparing one victim for potential conversion, including plans to send her to Malaysia. The investigation is expanding to examine social media interactions and possible connections to a larger conversion network based in Malegaon, Nashik district. In response to the situation, TCS reiterated its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy on harassment and has suspended implicated employees. Additionally, the Maharashtra government has mandated stricter enforcement of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act in workplaces to enhance protections for women employees.
