The Kerala Hotel & Restaurant Association (KHRA) has issued a warning of strong protests, including a march to Parliament, if the Central government does not resolve the ongoing LPG crisis by June 1, 2026. This decision was made during a State committee meeting held on May 14. KHRA leaders, including State president G. Jayapal and general secretary N. Abdul Razak, have accused the Union government of ignoring the challenges faced by hotels and restaurants due to sharply rising gas prices. The association noted that the hotel sector is struggling to survive, with many establishments facing potential closure if the crisis continues. They highlighted that the domestic sector consumes 85% of cooking gas, placing an unfair burden on the hotel industry. Even small tea shops, which typically use just one cylinder a day, are experiencing additional expenses of around ₹1,000 (approximately $12 USD) daily. The KHRA emphasized that it is not feasible for hotels to increase food prices beyond a certain limit, further jeopardizing their viability.
