The Palm Dog Award, an unofficial accolade at the Cannes Film Festival recognizing exceptional canine performances, has awarded Yuri, a rescue dog from Chile, for her role in the film 'La Perra.' Directed by Dominga Sotomayor, the film premiered in the Directors' Fortnight section and follows Silvia, a woman on a remote Chilean island whose life changes with the arrival of Yuri, a stray puppy that awakens her maternal instincts. Before starring in the film, Yuri was rescued from a shelter run by Mirada Animal Chile, where she underwent a collaborative adoption and training process led by the production company PLANTA alongside trainers Nicolás Carrillo and Marcela Carrasco. After filming, Yuri found a loving home. The Palm Dog Awards also recognized other canine talents, including Lola from Clio Barnard’s 'I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning.' Previous winners have included notable dogs from acclaimed films, making this award a highlight of the festival.
