Fure has witnessed litter accumulation, including microplastics, which pose a threat to local wildlife and the nearby Hogsmill River. Kingston Council has stated that it will consider the petition once closed and is committed to safeguarding the cemetery's vital habitats. However, they acknowledge the emotional significance of memorial items for visitors, particularly those unable to frequently visit graves. The council currently has regulations against plastic fencing and encourages visitors to remove plastic wrappers from flowers. Fure believes that the current situation has deteriorated significantly and calls for immediate action to restore the cemetery's natural beauty and integrity, emphasizing that it should be a place of peace and reflection rather than a landfill site.
