The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has identified 174 dangerous buildings, 249 landslide-prone areas, and 496 flooding spots in Mumbai as part of its pre-monsoon preparations. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proactively identified 174 dangerous buildings, 249 landslide-prone areas, and 496 flooding spots in Mumbai ahead of the monsoon season. Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Bhide revealed that 72 of the identified buildings have been vacated, while 71 face legal stay orders. The BMC is also constructing retaining walls at 96 landslide-prone sites and has implemented measures for 403 flooding spots. To combat waterlogging, 547 dewatering pumps will be operational from May 5, equipped with IoT devices for real-time monitoring. The BMC has made progress in desilting efforts, with 45% completion in the city and western suburbs, while 27% of work on the Mithi river is done. Furthermore, a new pothole fix-it app is being launched to enhance road infrastructure, which has seen a significant reduction in pothole-related expenditures, from ₹230 crore in 2023 to ₹164 crore in 2024. Bhide emphasized the importance of early preparedness due to unpredictable weather patterns.
