The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is in search of a new location for its first municipal museum, originally planned for the historic Town Hall in Chandni Chowk. This shift comes as the Town Hall complex is being redeveloped by the Delhi Tourism department under the National Mission for Developing Fifty Globally Competitive Tourism Destinations scheme. A senior municipal official indicated that the MCD is considering relocating the museum's artefacts to the Lahori Gate haveli museum, which is being developed in partnership with the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA). This new venue will feature curated galleries and a section dedicated to the municipality's history. The Town Hall, a Grade-I heritage structure, has been underutilized since the MCD moved its headquarters in 2012. The IGNCA has been actively restoring artefacts and archival materials, including significant documents and photographs related to Delhi's civic history. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has emphasized the importance of transforming the Town Hall into a global heritage centre showcasing Delhi's rich cultural legacy.
