The Jharkhand High Court, during a hearing on a civil contempt case, has directed the Ramgarh district administration to expedite safety measures at the Chhinnamastika Temple in Rajarappa ahead of the monsoon season. The bench, comprising Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad and Justice Anubha Rawat Choudhary, emphasized the urgent need for protective netting and barricading at the confluence of the Bhairavi and Damodar rivers, an area known for accidental drowning incidents involving pilgrims. Deputy Commissioner Ritu Raj assured the court that a priority safety barricade would be constructed before the monsoon, independent of the final project report. Additionally, the court addressed the situation of 254 local shopkeepers recently removed from the temple perimeter, with plans for temporary bamboo and asbestos structures to replace their makeshift plastic covers until permanent commercial spaces are developed. To combat extreme summer heat, the administration will lay down ground mats cooled by continuous water flow for pilgrims. The court also ordered a verification drive to address illegal encroachments on forest land, with plans for Central Coalfields Limited to build a hospital for local medical emergencies. The Ramgarh DC and project consultants are required to present the finalized Detailed Project Report on May 15.
