The Punjab government has withdrawn the Y-category security cover for Harbhajan Singh (Rajya Sabha MP), recalling Punjab Police personnel from his residence in Chhotti Baradari, Jalandhar. Harbhajan Singh is among seven MPs who recently switched from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), leading to significant political backlash. Protests erupted near his residence and in other cities like Ludhiana and Amritsar, where demonstrators accused him of betrayal, chanting slogans such as “gaddaron sharam karo” (traitors, be ashamed). The political fallout has intensified, with AAP leaders promising to burn effigies of the MPs involved. Officials confirmed that the earlier security detail of 21 personnel was withdrawn, and only area security remains in place.
